INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAM

The Instructor Course is a 1000 clock hour program of study designed to perfect what the student learned in the General Cosmetology Course or General Barbering Course. Additionally, the student will receive information and training on educational techniques, curriculum development, and proficiency in practical skills. Classroom management skills will be taught and student will receive information on the use of instructional aids. The student will also receive training in advertising, merchandising, and on record keeping techniques.

OCCUPATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Once the student has completed the program and passed the DC State Board of Cosmetologists/Barber-Stylist Instructor Examination for licensure, he/she will be qualified to obtain employment as an instructor in a school of cosmetology or barbering (SOC Codes 39-5011.00 39-5012.00).

REQUIREMENTS FOR DC STATE BOARD EXAMINATION FOR instructor

To be eligible to receive an instructor's license the applicant shall meet the following requirements:
  • Be at least 17 years old
  • Have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Have completed 1000 hours of fundamental training
  • Hold a Cosmetology or Barber license for 6 months
